Namaste Naked’s Story
Back in 2022 I started having debilitating anxiety attacks. I would have to call a friend & tell them that I was in Walmart paralyzed with fear. That I’d been there for 5 hours. Eventually I could be talked down & leave. After months of this I finally realized I was terrified of the future. Mostly the future that involved money. I‘d feel guilty for days at a time that I had no savings for my children. My paycheck-to-paycheck jobs were destroying my body. How long would I last? Who would take care of me when I was old & couldn’t help myself? I've always been very independent. To get rid of the attacks I knew I needed to feel in control of my own destiny, but I also needed another career. One that was easier on my body & that I actually enjoyed.
So that's where airbrush tanning came in. As a teen I had worked in a tanning salon when my boss bought an airbrush machine. I got so good & enjoyed it so much she started giving me customers! Unfortunately, I ended up moving and that was the end of that. So, fast forward to the present day & I researched everything airbrush tans & got myself certified - twice! I spent all I had on a quality machine, top of the line products, a tent, & some other little things. I started practicing on friends until I was back in the swing of doing them. Just like riding a bicycle but far easier & better looking with today’s upgrades in machines and solutions. Most airbrush artists charge $10 to $50 more than me, but I figured if I took care of my customers, they’d take care of me! They’d come back & spend if I made them look & feel beautiful and was reasonably priced. Not to mention, educating them about the airbrush tan process & safer tanning practices.
Since the day I started dreaming Namaste Naked up in my head, my kids have always been my #1 motivation. Although, what good would success be if they had to deal with terrifying things like climate change & human trafficking, now & in the future? If I could work every day for the rest of my life just to know they’d be okay believe me, I would. But I can’t. I can’t fix the world for them, but I can do my part. I decided that I would only use clean products, cruelty free & safe for both my customers & the environment. I also decided that a portion of every purchase made at Namaste Naked would be donated to nonprofits that are trying to set things right again. For our planet & for our kids & their future.
I started this business in 2022 and dove in face first. I was disappointed to learn so many people won’t try airbrush tans because they’re scared that they‘ll be orange or streaky so they stay in the tanning beds. Which is terrible for you. 90% of wrinkles, fine lines & age spots come from the sun. Spray booths can really make a mess on you if you don’t stand perfect. Airbrush tans are created by hand & good for your skin. The sunless solution of today, especially the customizable mixes do not cause orange tints & actually combat them with violet tones. Make sure you have a certified airbrush artist with good reviews. They create flawless, non-streaky airbrush tans. For the younger generations, prevention is easier than fighting wrinkles & skin cancer later in life if you continue to use beds or sunbathe. Take care of your skin now!
I wasn’t getting many customers & I got discouraged. When my best friend needed more help with her cleaning company, I put Namaste Naked on the back burner. However, now she has great employees and a flourishing business. I decided that I needed to get back to my dreams. This time I wouldn’t give up or get discouraged! I would not only airbrush people but educate them on safer sun practices. I’d also make donations through Namaste Naked to nonprofit organizations. What good is a successful business & future, if we don’t have a future?
